On your desktop select "Start", then "Setting", then "Control Panel".
In "Control Panel", double-click the "Modems" icon to bring up the "Modems Properties" window.
In the "Modems Properties" window, click on the "Properties" button.
Select the "Connection" tab at the top of the "Properties for your modem" window, then click on the "Advanced" button which opens the "Advanced Connection Settings" dialog box.
Place your cursor in the box entitled "Extra Settings", then enter the initialization string.
Click on the "OK" button, then click on the "OK" button again in the next window, then click on the "OK" button again in the next window. It is important that you click "OK" out of these windows (rather than closing them or hitting "Cancel") in order to save the new settings.
To remove the string, follow the steps above, but delete the the string from the "Extra Settings" box.
