FAQ: Video Cat

Why does video frame rate drop when the video frame size becomes larger?

Increasing the video frame size will increase the amount of data being transmitted. A higher bandwidth can improve the frame rate. A faster CPU and hard drive can improve performance as well.

Why is my camera not working? My computer says that the JPI.dll file has become corrupted. What can I do to fix this?

The JPI.dll file may get corrupted when Photoshop is loaded after PC-EYE. The .dll file can be replaced by reinstalling PC-EYE.

When I load PC-EYE or VP-EYE, I get an error message: "No Capture Filter Found".

This error message indicates the video device driver is not installed. To fix this:
  1. Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager
  2. Look for a yellow exclamation mark described by Windows as "Other Device" or "PCI Multimedia Video Device". Highlight the item and click on "Remove".
  3. Click on "Refresh" and insert your PC-EYE or VP-EYE CD into your CD-ROM. (Ignore the auto-run setup program. Click Stop to exit setup)
  4. When Windows prompts you for "PCI Multimedia Video Device" driver, specify the driver location using either the "Other Location" or "Specify Location" button to "D:\driver" (where "D" is the CD-ROM diver letter; your CD-ROM drive letter may be different).
  5. Follow the rest of the installation procedures. You should now have "CMOS-A USB Camera" (or "STV673", if you used the VP-EYE CD) under "Imaging Device" in the "Device Manager".
